Default Trying to convince my Dad to get me a 350z

So I drive an '04 Jeep Wrangler. I found a guy one Craigslist who's willing to trade his '04 Silver 350z with 79k miles on it. My Jeep currently has 85k. I appraised my car and it's currently worth 12.8k and the 350z is worth 10k. I have a job interview tomorrow at Best Buy and my dad said if I get the job I might be able to trade for the Z. So my questions for you guys are:

-What should I say to convince my dad to let me trade? (Keep in mind, my dad is in the Army)
-What after market parts should I get that are a reasonable price?

What's the base hourly pay at BB nowdays? I started at $10 but that was in '03. They didnt like to give anything above 25 hours unless you were full time. We had maybe 10 FT employees out of 60, excluding managers. You had to be promoted, they never hired anyone straight into FT. It was 10 years ago, maybe they've changed.

Good luck.

What?

1. Buy your own sh*t, trade you're own sh*t.
2. Thread worthy..?
3. You're asking dumb questions about parts for a car you don't even HAVE yet.

Best of luck.

I went from a Wrangler to a 350z...but you have to realize insurance will double (at min) and parts aren't cheap either.

And you live in D.C. what about snow? I drove mine with snow tires and loved it, but it is COMPLETELY different than driving a FWD vehicle or 4WD Jeep.

if you get the job, offer to pay in monthly installments to your dad back no matter how low it is if its part time. Also thinking about buying parts for a car before you get it is jumping the gun. 300 ponies is enough for most people unless race car

Thumbs up

Pm me your answers if you don't feel comfortable posting. posting with respect not to bash

1. Did you even look at this car in-person if not take advise below.

Go look AT the car set a meeting up with the owner of the Z, make sure its in okay condition because the parts for that car you want to buy could be only to fix up whats broken not to enhance performance show your dad you know what you're doing and not just rushing into things making him and you regret the decision. MAKE SURE YOU'RE GETTING WHAT YOU WANT!

2. If you had looked at the car and it's looking reliable (should try to get an inspection done if possible before buying)

Ask questions about the car negotiate hard (find out if its been switched to synthetic and what not) If your car is worth more ask for a cash + car trade negotiate! once again make sure you have money saved up for when the car dose **** on you (it happens, prepare for the worst , hope for the best) $9.50 should be fine just stay in school still, but just know bust your *** with hours at work and penny pinch when needed (sucks to work alot but the Z is worth it). you can save 8g with that pay in a year working 30 hr shifts or so. (maybe keep the jeep?) switch insurance between cars one winter one summer.

3. Make sure you have another daily (are you truly ready to get a sports car)

Even if its a beat up car make sure you have a daily or winters will give your z a nice fine rust on the bottom over the years, how long do you plan on having this car and should you wait! (i know waiting sucks my man, but waiting will get you the car you are looking for it all works out)

keep me updated best of luck hope to see you on the forums like i said your dad will let you buy it if he thinks you're ready

Getting the Z isn't really a good idea in your situation to be honest. You could fit more guys in your Wrangler.

ohhhhh do we have another Dugan33 on our hands?! hahaha!!

A. look at your insurance, as a 16-18 year old you'll probably be paying $140+ a month
B. Cost of gas, maintenance and repair. Remember these cars take premium which in CA is $4.02 and it's usually $70-80 for a full tank (don't know DC prices)
C. Do your research! i was stationed overseas for 2 years, and was on this site everyday before i purchased my car
D. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!

Wait, is the jeep even yours. In your first post you just said you were "driving it". If its yours then do the trade, just don't expect support if hes currently paying your insurance and gas money or whatever.

If the jeep isn't yours then start saving your pennies and wait until you can buy it yourself. When I started driving I drove my parents suburban around. I was the only one who drove it, but I would NEVER have asked my parents if I could trade it for another car, especially one that was worth less than it.

To reiterate, if its your jeep, do what you want with it and suffer the costs.
If its their jeep, screw off until you can afford the car yourself.

The cool thing about parents is a lot of them still want to help you out. I bought my car when I graduated high school while I was living with my parents, so as a graduation gift they got me a new set of tires, and every once in awhile my dad would take it before I wake up, have a joyride, and then fill the tank up even if it was nearly empty as a surprise. Maybe my parents are just super chill, but I'm sure if you asked they might spot you some cash in a tight spot, as long as you can keep up with insurance and gas payments.
